Built in 1940, before India’s Independence, Shiv Sadan Palace 1940 is more than a heritage homestay—it is a historic family residence deeply connected with the cultural legacy of Varanasi.
Our family has been part of the city’s history for generations. Dr. Surendranath Adhikari, an important figure in our family history, served as the family doctor to the Maharaja of the erstwhile Banaras State. Today, this historic home continues its legacy of warmth, hospitality and personal connection.
Shiv Sadan Palace 1940 is proudly run by the fourth generation of the Adhikari family, with Mr. Shubham Adhikari as your host. Continuing a tradition passed down through generations, he welcomes travellers from around the world and helps them experience Varanasi beyond the usual tourist itinerary.
Located in the heart of the old city, the homestay offers convenient access to some of Varanasi's most important spiritual and cultural landmarks. Gauri Kedareswar Temple and Kedar Ghat are just 250 metres away, while Assi Ghat is approximately 1 km, Kashi Vishwanath Temple 1.2 km, and Manikarnika Ghat 2 km from the property.
Varanasi Junction Railway Station is approximately 6 km away, while Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport is around 28 km from Shiv Sadan Palace 1940
Here, you can experience the timeless charm of Banaras through its ancient temples, historic ghats, narrow lanes and vibrant everyday life—all while staying in a home that has witnessed generations of the city’s history.
Come as a guest, experience Banaras like a local, and leave with memories of a home where history, heritage and heartfelt hospitality come together.
